National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center

Last month I found out that one of my paintings was selected from the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center to be a part of their Women Are Sacred conference. This year’s theme is “Carrying our medicine and strengthening our vision to end the violence.” I was honored that my piece, “Grandma Pauline”, will be featured in future awareness campaign materials! The image is a section of a larger piece of both of my great-grandparents. My ts’uyda was a resilient women. She endured a tough life living in a remote village and with limited resources at times, but a rich life nonetheless. She had several children and a husband who treasured her. She lived off the land for food, clothing, shelter all the while caring for her children and some of her grandchildren. Grandma Pauline epitomized what it means to be Indigenous and resilient. I loved her very much as she was a large part of my childhood. I have fond memories of grandma Pauline and I miss her dearly. Ts’enanh, NIWRC!
